Justin R. Gilbert joined the Gilbert & Furey firm in 2004. His practice areas include civil litigation, personal injury litigation, commercial litigation, criminal law, family law, juvenile law, wills and probate, and real estate matters.Mr. Gilbert received his B.A. from the University of Texas in 2000 and his J.D. from Texas Tech University School of Law in 2003. While in law school, Justin was a member of the Board of Barristers and was honored for academic achievement by his induction into Phi Kappa Phi. Prior to studying law, Mr. Gilbert served as President of the University of Texas Silver Spurs and was honored with an appointment as the handler for the University’s storied mascot, “BEVO.”

In addition to his law practice, Justin currently serves as a member of the board of directors for the Brazoria County Bar Association, the Southwest SIDS service organization, and the United Way of Brazoria County.

Mr. Gilbert is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the American Bar Association, the Brazoria County Bar Association, and the Texas Association of Defense Counsel. He is licensed to practice before all Texas state courts and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas.

Justin and his wife, Courtney, live in Lake Jackson, Texas.

Eric T. Furey

Fax: 979-480-0887Eric T. Furey joined Gilbert & Furey in 2004. His career has included the prosecution and the defense of varied cases from initial investigation to first-chair trial. Mr. Furey practices in diverse subject areas of litigation including environmental law, toxic torts, and personal injuries. He has experience handling business and commercial transactions, including corporate securities transactions (tender offers, stock purchases and sales, etc.), as well as business and estate planning, real estate, maritime law, and family law matters.Mr. Furey received his B.A. from George Mason University in 1984 and his J.D. from the University to Houston in 1987, where he was honored for academic achievement as a member of the Order of the Barons. He served as Research Editor for the Houston Law Review from 1986-1987. Mr. Furey is the author of Republic bank Dallas v. Interkal: Interpreting Mechanics’ and Material men’s Liens in Texas, published in the Houston Law Review (24 Hou. L. Rev. 399 (1987)); and co-author of “Renouncing the Rule of Limited Liability: Shareholder Liability under CERCLA, published in the Corporate Counsel Review (9 Corp. Couns. Rev. 71 (1990)).

Mr. Furey is a member of the State Bar of Texas, and is admitted to practice before all Texas state courts and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas. Eric is a member of the Brazoria County Bar Association.

Barbara P. Fratila re-joined the Gilbert & Furey law firm in Angleton, Texas in 2007 after serving nine years as Assistant General Counsel of the Port of Houston Authority of Harris County, Texas. Barbara had previously worked at Gilbert & Furey from 1982 until 1997.

Barbara currently works in the areas of estate planning, wills, trusts and probate matters; corporate, contract, and real estate transactional work, including environmental aspects of real estate transactions. While at the Port of Houston Authority, Barbara worked with all divisions with major concentration in engineering and real estate contract matters.

Barbara received her B.A. with High Honors from the University of Maryland in 1973 and her J.D. from South Texas College of Law in 1990 where she was a member of the Wood Inn of the International Legal Honors Fraternity of Phi Delta Phi and the Order of the Lytae. She received her LL.M. with a concentration in Energy, Environmental and Natural Resources law from the University of Houston in 2006. Her thesis to fulfill the LL.M. program requirements was entitled, “The Texas Gulf Coast is For the Birds.”

Barbara currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Community Foundation of Brazoria County and as Chairman of the Environmental Committee of the Friends of the River (FOR) San Bernard. In the past, she has served on the Board of Directors of the Brazoria County Bar Association and the Gulf Coast Bird Observatory.

Barbara is a member of the State Bar of Texas and its Estate Planning and Probate, Real Estate, and Environmental Law sections; the Brazoria County Bar Association; the Texas Association of Environmental Professionals; and the American Association of Port Authorities.

Barbara and her husband, Nick, live on the San Bernard River in Brazoria, Texas.

Courtney T. Gilbert joined the Gilbert & Furey firm in 2009. Her practice areas include criminal law, family law, juvenile law, civil litigation, and real estate matters. Mrs. Gilbert is a former Brazoria County Assistant District Attorney. During her five years as a prosecutor, Courtney tried over fifty jury trials to verdict.

Mrs. Gilbert received her B.A. from the University of Oklahoma in 2001 and her J.D. from Texas Tech School of Law in 2003. While in law school, Courtney was a member of the Board of Barristers.

In addition to her law practice, Courtney is a member of the Junior Service League and the Chairperson for the Southwest SIDS Research Institute.
